The General meeting was held
General meeting of current year started at 10:00 a.m. in a Chuo Kominkan on Sunday, May 6.
The result of the previous year's business activities and closing of accounts of revenue and expenditure were reported. Revision of rule, this year's business activities, revenue and expenditurewere discussed. The executives and the advisors were elected. Finally every agenda was passed.
" Ritto International Friendship Association " was established in May, 1999, and ten years
will have passed next year since it was established.
The general meeting was held, greeting Yozo Nakamura deputy mayor, Toshitatsu Miki Chairperson of Ritto City Council. Nakamura deputy mayor said as follows: " I expect that with multicultural coexistence increasing its importance more and more nowadays, this association will further play active roles in the future by taking the present situation as an important opportunity to feel different culture familiar to one another." He also stated, " I hope that through its ideas and active activities, the association will make further contribution for this region to go international." Chairperson of the City Council gave us his congratulatory address, saying "I would like to emphasize the importance of advancing our international exchange while respecting one another and to pay my deference to both open and private activities by resident foreigners.
According to the latest change in the committee article, "International Business Committee" and "Cultural Exchange Committee" were combined and renamed as "Cultural Exchange Committee" (The detail is as mentioned on next page).
At the election of officer member, the Chairperson Teruhiko Hayashi, who worked since from 2003, made an honorable retirement. Mr. Akio Okada was newly elected as a third Chairperson.
Taking this opportunity, we would like to send our respective salutation to the ex-Chairperson Mr. Hayashi for his remarkable and devoted activity to the association during his term of office. Same time, we hope he would stay with us as an honorary advisers and assist our association.

      Chairperson: Akio Okada
I was elected as a third chairperson at the general meeting. I was afraid I am not so entitled to act as a chairperson since I am still less experienced to bear this responsible position on my shoulder.
However, I made up my mind to take this position to work devotedly for developing this society marking 10th anniversary shortly.
Taking this opportunity, please allow me to present my hearty respect and gratitude to my senior leaders for their efforts up to now.
Today we are seeing very rapid globalization in all fields of our life. I know some drastic change must be made to our daily activity to catch up with this tendency more properly effectively.
RIFA followed basic attitude in international society which is "thinking global scale and playing active part in local" since a new start. It is quite natural that we should maintain and develop the existing international exchange program, and all the more, I am sure, it is highly important to understand each other more, over the nationality and country.
As for the thing of such a situation comparing RIFA with an establishment purpose, made use of experience and result of then "people living in the same country and area interchanges and get over the difference of race, nationality, languages, cultures, customs, internationalization from that which is near", that is to "internationalize from within". Thus, city officials have been working on keeping communication between domestic and foreign residents. Now over 1300 foreign people live in Ritto city. We have to give them more information and advice for daily life, and also give them more chances to communicate with the domestic residents, so that the city's community would be more open to the foreign residents. We have to make them feel "I'm glad to come to Japan" and "I'm happy to live in Ritto". I think this is a way of internationalization and it is our urgent responsibility to let our local community work toward this direction.
We know many people have agreement for RIFA, but we are hoping to advance to further developments. I please ask "Ritto International Friendship Association" to you to have deep understanding and support. And I do it with greetings.
