 I am Nami Mitani, joining to RIFA office from this April. For 2 years from January, 2004 to January, 2006, I had worked at the Japanese Teaching Class of Japan-Mexico Friendship Association as a youth volunteer of Japanese origin society. I would like to capriciously write a Mexican life style and circumstance of Japanese language in Mexico. |

 ＊Mexico “ Mexico “ is “ Mexico” in Spanish. Why ?? Mexican students were surprised with such one voice that “ Mexico “ was strange, when I taught the sentence of “ I was Mexican” in the Japanese Teaching Class.I understand their feeling. Because I can not also understand the meaning of changes from “Nipon” to Japan, Japon, Riben. By the way, it is probable that “ Mexico “ would mean the navel of moon in Aztec language. According to information from Mexican friend, this is because Mexico city, the capital city of Mexico is located at the navel of country of which shape is very similar to the moon. Really ?? I find the different story that originate in the name of ancient god, by checking up the source of “Mexico “ while writing an article. I have already trumpeted the story of “ navel of moon” to many people. A cold sweat is standing on my forehead !!! |

 ＊Japanese Teaching Class in Japan Mexico Friendship Association Japan Mexico Friendship Association was located at the end of big street, CALLE FUJIYAMA, that seems to be named in Japanese. Within the association, there were swimming pool, and nice Japanese garden with cactus, Japanese style rest rant with delicious Sushi and tea ceremony room in addition. At the week end, the wedding parties were held cheerfully at the big square. The building of Japanese Teaching Class was in a corner of area for the association. At every Saturday, Mexican and Japanese Mexican people over 200 joined to the class for studying Japanese. The students were divided into several classes and learnt Japanese hardly. I was always having question about why they could improve skill of Japanese so quickly. I fell miserable when I have question about why I can not still master Spanish fully even if staying in Mexico for 2 years. |
