〜RIFA members' gathering〜

 After the toast in hornor of the Hengyang delegation, the participants enjoyed exchanging at the sukiyaki party. They talked one another through the interpreters or by writing. With the alchole named Guizheumaohejiu with 55 percent of alcoholic strength brought by the delegates, they intoxicated and some people began to sing with the music of the taishogoto, which livened the party up.
 Though it was an only-two-hour party, a raffle was offered and the people could deepen friendship with the delegates.
Letter from Switzerland 〔Winter〕
 The season is changing from summer to autumn and to winter here. I often think that it is a shame that the seasons between summer and winter are too short due to the extreme summer and winter. It is hot in summer in Japan, but sometimes cold here
 I will introduce the food in winter here which is not my favorite, though. Yes, it is wild in winter. The meat is deer; and vegetable wineis red cabbage, Brussels sprouts, chestnuts, and mushrooms; and the desert is chestnuts. When I came here, I was surprised that they eat rabbits and deer. Deer meat is tender but has a little bit of smell. It is a little hard for me to eat it. If you like meat, it might be all right. Chestnuts are cooked like caramel which is so sweet that it is like a desert. I like it, though. It is eaten with red cabbage or Brussels sprouts. It is eaten until the middle of December, because you cannot do deer hunting after that. With the deer dish, light red wine is recommended. Full-bodied wine made in Italy or French might be a little thick, so light wine made in Switzerland is preferred. Red wine brewed in Maienfeld that is famous in Japan as a village of Hedi. There is delicious white wine, too, in Switzerland. I can recommend wine brewed in Lausanne. Among them are the wine and dezaley called Aigle with a lizard mark. These are very delicious. Salad or light meal is preferable in summer and cheese fondu or raclette(boiled potatoes eaten with melted cheese, which is very delicious.) in winter.Merry Christmas
 If you have a chance to come here, please be brave to try local food. It is no doubt that you can broaden you horizons. It is impossible to talk about the country without watching the people and trying the food. To treat guests, Japanese people often make nabe or sukiyaki and enjoy the meal together merrily. Japanese people like to arrange recipe, don't they? My husband, Switzerland native, was astonished at my way at first, but now he says he misses if some arrangement isn't done. It is nice to do on your own way as long as you can enjoy it.
 Now, Christmas is just around the corner. Christmas decollations can be seen from the shop windows little by little. The towns of Zurich will be lightened up soon. The lights that used for a long time are changed to new ones. Changing the warm image with the color of gold brought about different opinions, but now they are being set up. The meaning of Christmas is different between Japan and here, but it must be an opportunity for family members to get together.

 She was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, and raised in Ritto, Shiga. She obtained a chance to go to Switzerland when she was working for the Biwako Hotel. She got married to a man named Peter in 1990, and since then she has lived in Switzerland. She saw RIFA's webpage and sent e-mail to us. She willingly agreed to put her letters regarding Switzerland in RIFA's newsletter.
